EBS Snapshots

  • Make backup of the volume

  • Not necessary to detach while snapshot, but recommended

  • Copy across AZ or region

  • Snapshot Archive - cheaper, takes time to restore

  • Recycle Bin - Accidental deletion recover, specified retention

  • Fast Snapshot Restore - No latency on first use, costly

  • HDD series can not be used as boot volumes

  • Only “io” which is high IOPS storage can be attached to multiple EC2 instances
